Description

Details:

This workshop is 2.5 hours in duration and we teach you about bees and how to begin keeping bees at home. Our beekeeping course is located in Bywong NSW. Our apiary is approximately 20 minutes from Canberra and 3 hours from Sydney.

You learn what equipment is essential to start beekeeping (and what is not). We discuss local plants that are beneficial to bees and the pros and cons of the different types of bee hives available. You are also given the opportunity to use a smoker to calm the bee colony and remove a frame from a hive. You learn how to extract honey of a frame, strain it and bottle the honey. Finally, we give you a jar of honey to take home!

Our workshops are designed for maximum hands on time and mentoring. The majority of the course including discussions takes place at the hives and in the honey shed. We believe in quality over quantity therefore participant numbers are limited to just five people per course.

What to bring:

Protective gloves, suits and sunscreen are provided. Please wear enclosed shoes, boots are preferable. Long sleeved tops and pants are recommended but not essential. Please bring a bottle of water. Bees are attracted to sugar so bringing soft drink will tempt them inside your beverage!

Please note:

This is a beekeeping course therefore if you suffer from anaphylaxis or an allergy to bees or bee products we highly recommend you do not attend.
This course is designed for participants aged 14 years and older. Children under 16 require an adult participant on the course unless you obtain written approval from us prior to the course.
